Some Warning Signs To heed

Early detection of a child's deafness is the key to his successful integration into society. If it is discovered as early as six months, the child has a slimmer chance of becoming hearing-impaired. Here are some warning signs in your baby to watch out for:-

Newborn to 3 months :-
Doesn't responsd to your voice, sounds or music
Isn't startled at sudden loud sounds

4 to 8 months:-
Does't turn head or eyes toward the direction of sound
Does't enjoy shaking noise-making toys such as a rattle
By six months, baby hasn't begun to babble to himself
Does't response when spoken to

9 to 12 months:-
Does't respond to his name
When babbling, doesn't vary his pitch
Makes different consonant sounds such as 'm', 'b', 'g'.
Doesn't respond to music by bouncing or singing
Doesn't turn quickly or directly toward a soft noisemaker
Doesn't understand what 'no' means

18 months to 3 years:-
At 18 months, doesn't say more than five words
Between 2 and 3 years, doesn't use two or three word sentences
You have difficulty understanding his speech most of the time
